The Doberman Pinscher is a muscular powerful built breed. They are elegant in appearance reflecting great nobility and temperment. They are energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient. Dobermans are great companions and are very devoted to their homes and families. The Doberman males are 26 to 28 inches in height and females are 24 to 26 inches in height. Weight will vary as the Dobermans are very muscular. The ears are normally cropped in the U.S. and carried erect. The coat of a Doberman is smooth, short and close lying. They require very little brushing and are low matience. The Doberman Pinscher is from Germany. The namesake of the Doberman is Herr Louis Dobermann, a local magistrate from the town of Apolda, Germany. He is credited with having found the initial strain, which classifies the Doberman as a "man made" breed. Among Herr Dobermann's many duties were tax and rent collection and caring for the local pound. He came upon the idea of using the stock he had at his disposal to breed the perfect guard dog that would serve to protect him on these collection rounds of the town. Out of this experiment, the Doberman Pinscher came.
