CARIN TERRIER is a hearty little dog that loves people. Some people may recognize it as the "Toto" dog, from The Wizard Of Oz. They are 13 to 14 pounds when grown and come in any color except white. Dark muzzle, ears, and tail tip are desired. They are small, light footed and sturdy with a "foxy" look. They like to play outside but also make a wonderful house pet. They are gentle and loving and have an intense desire to please their master. They are intelligent, full of spirit, but not high strung. They are not fighters - they will not deliberately pick a fight - yet they will stand their ground and in no sense can be called a coward. They are not barkers but will warn of a prowler or any unordinary circumstances. These qualities make an excellent all around companion and family pet. Carin Terrier does not need to be stripped. But, when a pup is three to four months old it is a good idea to remove the puppy's coat with a stripping knife or plucking tool. A denser, more beautiful coat will grow this way. This is usually done again at around one year of age or when the coat is becoming loosened and is ready to fall out.
History-the Carin Terrier originated over 200 years ago in the Highlands of Scotland and on the Isle of Skye. They are closely related to Scottish Terriers and West Highland Terriers. They were separated according to color and classified what they were by their color. They were used for hunting foxes and badgers.
Our Carin Terriers are 10 to 15 pounds. We have The wheaten and red brindle colors. They are Registered with APRI, UKCI, and ACA.
